Irish Soda Bread by Maureen Maki

Maureen Maki 827 shares her Irish Soda Bread recipe.


4 cups flour (all purpose flour)

2 tsps baking soda

1 tsp salt

1/2 cup sugar

1 1/2 cups raisins

2 1/2 cups of buttermilk


Mix all dry ingredients in large bowl
Add buttermilk (mixture will be sticky)

Turn out mixture onto a floured board (I put flour on my hands so I can knead the mixture for a few moments. Shape the mixture and put in a greased/floured round or square casserole dish (about a 4 quart size). Bake at 350 for 1 hr (until no mixture is left on knife when inserted in bread for testing if done).
